…I pass on just a couple of nuggets to share.
One is the new video for the Bighorn Library in Exshaw, put together by Rose Reid and Bonnie Ryan. They asked residents what they got from their library – and got some interesting answers. The video captures some of the spirit of that wonderful place – I think the sound track could have been Good Vibrations !
The other is a shout out to Rogue Theatre. In Kim Bater’s blog post: The Magic of Community – Theatre creating presence, my fellow trustee and board chair notes some of the opportunities available for Bow Valley kids to gain experience in the performing arts. If it takes a village to raise a child, it takes the efforts and expertise of the whole community to pull off these ambitious, quality productions.
I went to the 2010 Rogue Players’ show, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and LMAO, as the kids so elegantly say. This amateur theatre company of local youngsters puts on not-so-traditional British pantomimes. Audience participation, heckling and interaction are the order of the evening. Sheer silliness. Sheer joy. And all down to the goodwill and hard work of the two founders, Mike Vlessides and Trevor Goodfellow – who seven years ago wanted to do something good for kids – and their flying squad of selfless volunteers.

These two nuggets embody for me what I cherish most about my community: the generosity, the creativity, and the willingness to step up and take a risk, and, of course the love of a good time. The fun and commitment demonstrated by such endeavours inspire others to leave the sidelines and join in. And that makes all our lives better. Thank you!
